The Connected Vehicle

Updated: Jun 24

The convergence of digitization is redefining the urban landscape and causing cities to adopt new innovative solutions to meet the new realities of urban and digital life. The future of mobility is multi-modal. It involves a wide array of fully integrated and connected options across all modes of transportation. Cities around the world are drawing on the application of smart technologies and the use of data analytics to develop multiple smart choices to meet the needs of residents and businesses by providing greater efficiencies.

One of the emerging concepts around smart transportation and smart mobility is the connected vehicle concept. A connected vehicle is one that is able to communicate with other systems outside the vehicle through the internet. When connected, vehicles can share valuable data with other devices. The data collected can then be supported by smart programs like smart traffic signals and used for mobility management that will allow the driver to reach their destinations safely, quickly, and in a cost-efficient manner.

There are five ways vehicles can be connected to their surroundings and contribute to the smart mobility of a smart city. These include:

Here is the procedure on how we can use Data Science in our Daily life in collaboration with The Connected Vehicle.

Vehicle-to-infrastructure:

This strategy exchanges information between vehicles and the highway system components that include road signs, traffic lights, and other smart road infrastructure. It aims to support traffic management, reduce collisions on the roads, and improve road safety.

Vehicle-to-vehicle:

Vehicles can be configured to pass useful data on speeds and positions to other vehicles around them. This can help to avoid crashes and ease traffic congestion

Vehicle-to-the-cloud:

When a vehicle is connected to the cloud system, it is allowed to be always connected to its environment. In other words, Connected Vehicles deploy intelligent communication that can be useful to solve traffic issues, improve road safety, and offer seamless in-transit infotainment, advanced parking, and roadside assistance.

Vehicle-to-pedestrian:

The technology communicates information about its environment to personal mobile devices. This will enable the vehicle to communicate with pedestrians. It is intended to improve mobility and safety on the roads.

Vehicle-to-everything:

There will likely emerge a model where vehicles are connected to all the above. That is to the infrastructure, to other vehicles, to the cloud, and to pedestrians.

Cities and Communities can use this form of smart mobility through technology and data and capture the additional benefits through improvement in usage, accuracy, and functionality to enhance high-quality services and drive sustainable growth for their residents and businesses.

WIASE RESEARCH INSTITUTE is committed to empowering cities and communities with the latest technology with the collaboration of DATA SCIENCE to implement the smart solution which can help cities and communities to survive in current challenges they are facing to be sustainable.
